Description : 

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria. Because of its rich history and dynamic present, it is called the “Sea Capital of Bulgaria”. Some of the most ancient settlements on the Black Sea coast, over 7,000 years old, have been discovered within the city limits. In 1972, the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis was discovered, dating back to around 4,400 BC. The oldest gold treasure in human history was found there, as well as other objects made of silver, copper, bronze, flint and clay.

The geographical location of the city, rich natural resources and ancient history make it one of the most beautiful resort centres in Europe. As the eastern gate of the European Union, the city is an important transport and logistics centre between Europe and Asia.

Role in the project :

Varna is one of the partners of the project, where will be set one of the case study which goal is to improve the integration of urban bus operations with the railway station to reduce the estimated average interconnection time by 20% thanks to intermodality strategies and automated data exchange using urban city centre data (streets, intersections, traffic restrictions, capacity).
